The award is $5,000.

The deadline is April 1, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific.

Graduate Scholarship

The Lu Memorial Scholarship is $5,000. It is the same award, read by the same people against the same questions, as the high school and undergraduate rounds.

We make five awards from the undergraduate and graduate form in each selection round. Graduate and undergraduate applicants are read together on that form.

Who may apply

  • You are enrolled in a graduate program, at any stage, in any country.
  • Or you have been admitted to a graduate program and have not started yet. You send your admission or enrollment confirmation with the application.

There is no minimum GPA. We do not accept test scores. You do not need U.S. citizenship or immigration status, and you do not need to study in the United States.

Which form you complete

Graduate applicants complete the undergraduate and graduate application. There is no separate graduate form. Choose the graduate option for your current status when the form asks, and the graduate questions follow from there.

Apply as a graduate student.

The short responses are shared with undergraduate applicants for the first three questions. Question 4 differs: graduate applicants answer why this degree, and why now, in 150 words. Undergraduate applicants answer a different question in the same space.

What you send

The form also asks how you spend your time: up to five entries, with hours per week. Paid work and caring for family count, and they are read the same way as anything else you list.

Your Plan and Costs asks graduate applicants for one year of costs, what you already have toward it, and your total debt so far. Assistantship and funding offers count toward what you already have.

We do not accept test scores, honors lists, resumes, or portfolios. Sending them does not help, and we do not read them.

Decisions

One step sits between the deadline and the decision date. Finalists are selected from the applications we read, and finalists are then asked for one document confirming their costs and interviewed. Finalists are interviewed, and the interview is part of deciding who receives the award.

The interview window is not published yet. The interview has what we have settled and what we have not. It covers undergraduate and graduate applicants, who share one form.

Submit the application by April 1, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. Decisions go out in late May 2027. We post the release date on the news page beforehand, and you get an email when your decision is in the portal. You can check your application status at any point after you submit.

If something is missing

We write to you in mid-April about anything we have not received. We may still read an application and reach a decision when a piece of it has not arrived, so send what you can by the deadline rather than waiting.

What we ask you to show

We do not ask anyone for a document while we read applications. If you become a finalist, we ask for one document that supports what you told us about your costs. Any one of these works: an aid award letter, a funding or assistantship offer letter, a FAFSA Submission Summary, a bursar or financial aid office letter, a meal-eligibility letter, a counselor letter, or a signed statement from a school official or employer.

One staff member at the Goal Get It! Lu Office of Financial Aid reads that document. The selection committee does not see it.

We never ask you for tax returns, bank statements, Social Security numbers, passport numbers, or other government identification numbers.
